The elite colleges and universities boasted some of the lowest acceptance rates ever this year, but what does this really mean? On the surface, it means it’s more difficult to be admitted, but it also means more students are inspired to reach high and perhaps, more students are prepared to persist at top schools. The reality, however, is that most elite schools are not going to expand their enrollment numbers, therefore, talented students must expand their options and open their minds to schools they hadn’t initially considered. For every well-known school you add to your list, match it with another, equally strong, but lesser known one. So, if you want Brown University, also consider Skidmore College or Connecticut College.
